Job Description
Norfolk Collegiate is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Middle School Social Studies teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. The teacher will be responsible for teaching multiple sections of middle school social studies courses, with the possibility of offering additional electives based on their interests and expertise. This position also includes advising a small group of upper school students and supporting the school's mission through collaboration, mentorship, and community engagement.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for history and civic engagement, a strong command of content knowledge in U.S. history, and an enthusiasm for working with middle school students. Candidates should bring energy, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to the classroom and school community.
Responsibilities:
Teach multiple sections of middle school social studies courses, focusing on history, geography, and civics.
Foster a classroom environment that emphasizes critical thinking, analytical writing, and respectful discussion.
Use a variety of teaching strategies and assessments to engage and support diverse learners.
Collaborate with middle school colleagues to align curriculum and instruction.
Participate fully in the life of the school, including attending meetings, school events, and contributing to co-curricular programs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in history, social studies education, or a related field; advanced degrees are valued.
Demonstrated experience teaching middle school students.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Enthusiasm for using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
