They will work with a variety of teams at Slate and help shape our audio strategy and Slate's overall editorial strategy as well.

Slate's terrific slate of shows span chat, narrative and news, and ideal candidates will have touched all three types of storytelling in their careers-or at least been exposed to the different modes of storytelling. They will have worked with producers, hosts and engineers; while this is not a production job, they must know audio production, soup to nuts. Additionally, this role requires an ability to communicate clearly, make decisions confidently, and to be wholly invested in making Slate's audio unit successful both commercially and culturally.

Slate welcomes candidates with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The position can be located in New York or D.C. Strong remote candidates will be considered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overseeing 10+ teams producing Slate podcasts on a variety of cadences, and providing management, mentorship and support across the network

  • Recruiting producers and talent, freelance and for open staff positions, as needed
  • Managing show budgets
  • Participating in overall Slate leadership, and working with the Slate text/website team to bring audio and text in alignment and collaboration

Key requirements

  • At least 10 years working in audio
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high quality, ambitious audio programming
  • An understanding of Slate's audio products, and Slate editorial generally

$150,000 - $160,000 a year
