Job Description & Requirements** PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES **\n•\tAssists physician with endoscopic examinations; performs gastric manometer testing\n•\tCoordinates the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient readiness for surgery\n•\tComprehensively reviews and assesses patient’s status r/t planned surgery, including:\n•\tPhysical parameters\n•\tLab values\n•\tMedications\n•\tPre-, intra-, and post-op learning needs\n•\tUnderstanding of procedure\n•\tConsults with Surgeon, Anesthesia, and other providers as needed, to resolve identified patient issues in a timely manner\n•\tPrevents avoidable surgery cancellations\n•\tBegins interdisciplinary discharge planning process, including patient and caregivers in planning\n•\tPerforms EKGs as ordered\n•\tManages care of patient, including pain control, during anesthesia recovery\n•\tManages patients undergoing moderate sedation, including medication administration, monitoring, routine and emergency airway management\n•\tIdentifies and interprets cardiac rhythms; proficient in use of cardio-respiratory monitoring equipment\n•\tAssesses patients, as appropriate to the scope of care the nurse will provide. Assessments may include physical, psychosocial, learning needs and barriers, needs related to age/culture, discharge planning\n•\tEstablishes nursing diagnoses based on results of assessments and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team\n•\tPlans care according to identified diagnoses and needs. Updates plan of care as appropriate\n\nImplements/performs individualized care, based on the nursing care plan and the nurse’s role with the patient. This care may include but not be limited to: Assists with activities of daily living, including fall risk management and safe patient \n•\thandling\n•\tMedication Administration\n•\tSkin assessment/wound care\n•\tPain management\n•\tOperation/manipulation of biomedical and other patient care and testing equipment, including but not limited to infusion pumps, patient transfer equipment, cardiopulmonary monitors, invasive catheters and drains, thermoregulation devices, measurement devices, medication dispensing cabinets, external therapeutic devices\n•\tAssists the physician and other licensed, independent practitioners with invasive and non-invasive procedures\n•\tTeaches patients and their families about current illness, medical tests, medication, general healthcare, illness and disease prevention, and wellness promotion\n•\tProvides appropriate assignment, supervision, and direction to unlicensed assistive personnel in order to ensure optimum patient care\n•\tProvides interdisciplinary coordination and facilitation of overall care\n•\tDocuments patient assessments, interventions, care, and teaching in the electronic medical record\n•\tDocuments in paper format, as necessary. Documentation is complete, concise, timely, and legible\n•\tEvaluates care provided, communicate patient status and results of care to the interdisciplinary team\n\n#HC8\n43
